girls weekend away in Tuscany

Last weekend I fled the darkness and dreariness of Brussels in January and headed for Italy with two of my favourite people, Sarah and Marissa.

We spent three nights in a wonderful house in the steep northern Tuscan hills, snuggled within a small hamlet at the top of a scary hairpin road up the side of the hill. The views were beautiful, the sun bright, the temperature freezing and the open fire perfect for roasting marshmallows to oozy perfection (I am not one of those burn-and-eat girls, it takes patience and skill).

We drove around the valleys, turning off the road to castles and villages when it looked interesting, we visited Pisa and took the compulsary “if it weren’t for me the tower would be falling over” pictures, visited the less-known but morebeautiful Lucca, ate many delicious pizzas and got greeted with “ciao bella!” by many the old gentleman…

And most of all I got to spend four glorious days with two funny, sweet, wise women. We talked and talked and talked and talked and talked.

Here’s a little snapshot of our four days of blissful escape to Tuscany.
