Serve the City Brussels May 2009 Picnic with the Homeless

Serving the City through feeding the homeless, clearing and painting a youth centre, teaching residents of an old people’s home to tango, helping people with disabilities learn to ride a bike, playing frisbee and football with asylum seekers, awareness raising about traffiking in our communities, cleaning up the parks…

I am proud of this

proud to be part of a church that started this movement of volunteers in Brussels that has now been replicated in more than 40 cities worldwide

proud to be serving in a church that is passionate to be acting in faith, not just talking,

a church that would rather risk failure rather than sit and do nothing,

proud to serve alongside some of the most humble, dedicated and uncomplaining people you will meet,

proud to serve a God whose visions for this earth are much much bigger than we can begin to comprehend.

Brothers and Sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
