Only not this time.
In typical Scottish fashion it rained most of the week and was cloudy the rest of the time. Hannah and I did fit in a trip to the grounds of Blair Castle during one lull in the rain, and even did a couple of walks with Ally and Ruby when they came up at the weekend, although we lost the path in the bracken at the top of one hill and ended up coming down the hill on our bums praying we didn’t hit any trees…
Queen’s View over Loch Tummel
The one sunnyish day we got was Friday, when I decided to introduce Hannah and Sam to St Andrews. It feels much longer than a year since I was last there, but spending the day there reminded me of all the reasons I love it so much. The pier, cathedral, Fisher&Donaldson doughnuts, lunch at the Vic, a walk along the beach (with Chariots of Fire style photos for Aunt Barb’s benefit), watching the golfers on the 18th hole, Holy Trinity church presiding over South St, Janette’s ice cream parlour…
West Sands, St Andrews
St Colmes is my favourite place on earth. Arriving there always feels like going home. From the moment we turn the corner up the steep drive I feel a huge sense of peace. The place is bursting at the seems with good memories from the last 22 years and you cannot but slow down and relax.
And the steak pie from the local Butchers is legendary…
