light chasers: tackling the winter blues

Light Chasers - ideas for fighting the winter blues - blog series from Fiona Lynne

I am a sunshine-loving girl. These long, damp and dark northern European winters can start to drag. Even the first excitement of snow does not last long before I’m dreaming of the day that my toes will once again be warm and the sky will stay light beyond 4pm.

This time of year is hard too, because I know it’s going to get worse before it gets better. This month we have Christmas to look forward to, but come January there’s just at least two more months of darkness to get through. I don’t suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affected Depression) but my mood definitely dips at this time of the year. I feel more sluggish, lack motivation and tend towards pessimism.

All this from the gloom?! Surely there must be something more I can do about it. And so was born a little idea for a mini series here, to walk through this dark season together and encourage each other to reach for the light, for the hopeful, for the positive.

Let’s be light chasers together, yes?

My plan is to post regular ideas and tips to help us fight the winter blues and learn to enjoy this season rather than being weighed down by it.

I’d love your input as I get started! I have jotted a lot of ideas down already, but I’d love to hear from you what helps you get out of your winter funk? How do you embrace the darkness of this season rather than resenting it? Leave me a comment and let me know…
